Compete with Confidence. FEI Compliant PEMF.

Two MagnaWave machines are fully compliant with FEI Veterinary Regulations for use at sanctioned events — so you can keep supporting your horse’s wellness without compromising your competitive standing.

the FEI Rules on PEMF

What You Need to Know Before You Compete.

The Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) — the international governing body for equestrian sport — has specific regulations covering the use of PEMF machines at sanctioned events. Understanding these rules protects your horse, your results, and your standing in the sport.

FEI VETERINARY REGULATIONS — OFFICIAL RULE
“The use of PEMF machines is only permitted if their electromagnetic field is below 0.1 Tesla (1,000 Gauss).”
FEI Veterinary Regulations, Article 1065 — Non-Restricted Supportive Therapies
PERMITTED
PEMF as a Non-Restricted Supportive Therapy
Under FEI Veterinary Regulations, low-frequency PEMF machines are classified as a Non-Restricted Supportive Therapy. This means they can be used at FEI events by support personnel — no Permitted Equine Therapist (PET) registration is required to operate a compliant machine.
KEY REQUIREMENT
The 1,000 Gauss Threshold

The FEI’s single technical requirement for PEMF at sanctioned events is straightforward: the machine’s electromagnetic field must remain below 0.1 Tesla — equivalent to 1,000 Gauss. Both the MagnaWave Semi 10 and Spiro Pulse operate within this limit and are FEI compliant.

DRUG-FREE
No Prohibited Substances

PEMF therapy introduces no substances into the horse’s body — it is entirely physical and electromagnetic. This means PEMF poses no risk of triggering a positive result under FEI anti-doping and controlled medication regulations, provided the machine itself contains no prohibited compounds in its accessories or materials.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Equipment Subject to Checks

While PEMF is a Non-Restricted Therapy, the FEI Veterinary Regulations note that equipment used in the FEI Stables Area is subject to routine inspection by the Veterinary Commission, Stewards, and other FEI Officials. Using a certified, compliant machine with documented specifications supports smooth on-site verification.

Regulatory Update — 2026 FEI Sports Forum

At the 2026 FEI Sports Forum, the FEI Veterinary Committee discussed a proposed further restriction that would limit PEMF use at FEI events to battery-operated devices only — with a maximum output of 100 Gauss. This proposal is still under review and has not yet been formally adopted into the FEI Veterinary Regulations. We are actively monitoring this development and will update our guidance as the regulatory process progresses. The Spiro Pulse is already battery-operated, and we are assessing the potential impact on the Semi 10 as the proposal develops. We recommend always verifying current FEI rules at inside.fei.org before competing.

Common Questions

FEI Compliance FAQs

The FEI Veterinary Regulations permit the use of PEMF machines at FEI events, provided their electromagnetic field output remains below 0.1 Tesla — equivalent to 1,000 Gauss. PEMF is classified as a Non-Restricted Supportive Therapy, meaning it can be used by support personnel without a Permitted Equine Therapist (PET) registration. Both the MagnaWave Semi 10 and Spiro Pulse meet this requirement.

No. Because PEMF is classified as a Non-Restricted Supportive Therapy under FEI Veterinary Regulations, it can be used by Personal Representatives (owners, trainers, grooms) and other support personnel without requiring registration as a Permitted Equine Therapist. This makes it one of the most accessible therapies available at the competition level.

Two MagnaWave machines are FEI compliant: the Semi 10 and the Spiro Pulse. Both operate below the FEI’s 1,000 Gauss electromagnetic field threshold. The Spiro Pulse is battery-operated, while the Semi 10 is AC powered and requires outlet access at the venue. All other MagnaWave machines are high-powered devices designed for non-competition therapeutic use.

Yes. The FEI Veterinary Regulations note that Non-Restricted Supportive Therapies and their associated equipment are subject to routine checks by the Veterinary Commission, Stewards, and FEI Officials. We recommend keeping documentation of your machine’s specifications — including its Gauss output — available when competing. MagnaWave can provide specification documentation for compliant machines upon request.

No. PEMF therapy is entirely physical — it uses electromagnetic energy and introduces no substances into the horse’s body. There is no risk of PEMF causing a positive result under FEI anti-doping or controlled medication regulations. PEMF is drug-free and non-invasive by definition.

At the 2026 FEI Sports Forum, the FEI Veterinary Committee discussed a proposed further restriction that would limit PEMF at FEI events to battery-operated devices with a maximum output of 100 Gauss. This proposal is under review and has not yet been formally adopted. The Spiro Pulse is already battery-operated and well-positioned for any potential future requirements. The Semi 10 is AC powered, and we are actively monitoring how this proposal may affect its use at FEI events. We will communicate updates as they become official, and recommend checking inside.fei.org for current regulations before any event.

FEI Veterinary Regulations generally govern the use of supportive therapies within the FEI Stables Area. We recommend consulting the specific regulations for your event and discipline, and confirming with the on-site Veterinary Commission if you have any questions about where treatment may be administered. Your event’s Veterinary Delegate is the best resource for event-specific guidance.
